"#1 EDITOR'S CHOICE IBOOK"

                       -APPLE

In 2011 I spent a year of afternoons and weekends in the basement, creating a new paper and digital textbook for changing music education. Frustrated by the expensive college textbooks  my college students detested, I created Interactive Listening, a method that used new music, global cultures, and a working class attitude. Six months later Apple picked it as the #1 Editor's Choice out of 22,000 interactive digital books, above Curious George, Coldplay, and Rachel Ray, for the month. The next month, Interactive Listening became the first music education method to ever be featured on the iTunes homepage.

As a saxophonist, I have performed and composed music for Grammy winners including Kirk Franklin, Tito Puente, the Winans, and the Plain White T’s. I studied composition with  two Pulitzer Prize winning composers, William Bolcom and William Albright at the University of Michigan, completing a degree in classical composition and a second degree in classical saxophone with Donald Sinta.  Moving to Miami after touring with various bands, I earned a Master’s degree with studies at Florida International University and the University of Miami. I'm currently finishing a Doctorate in Jazz Studies at the University of Illinois in Champaign.

As a Jazz artist, I headlined Jazz festivals in the US and overseas with my group Orange Alert. I was the first American to be featured at the Aberdeen Jazz Festival in Scotland, and my albums have been featured on NPR, NBC, and BBC. As an ed-tech author I was interviewed by Melissa Ross on NPR and First Coast News on ABC.
